Reiki Energy Healing
The word "reiki" comes from the Japanese words for "life force energy." Reiki is a form of energy healing in which the practitioner's hands, placed in specified positions on or an inch or two above the client's fully clothed body, interact with and work to realign the client's energy pathways. Reiki is gentle, non-invasive, and deeply relaxing.
In the book "Traditional Reiki for Our Times," Amy Rowland describes Reiki's effects on pregnancy in the following way: "Reiki fosters fertility, and, when a child is conceived, Reiki alleviates the discomforts of pregnancy and eases the pain of childbirth. Sometimes the duration of labor is shortened; sometimes the sensations of discomforts are reduced."
I have seen this in my use of Reiki with my clients in labor. Once, a woman who was "stuck" at 3 centimeters' dilation--and feeling panicky--found her groove, became deeply relaxed, and was 9 centimeters dilated after only an hour of Reiki. Another mama I did Reiki with went from five centimeters and anxious to ten (fully dilated) and eagerly pushing in a little over an hour. Sometimes the shift in energy is profound, as in these cases, and other times there is a more subtle change, but after a Reiki session mamas feel relaxed, refreshed, and calm.
I include one Reiki session with my doula services package. Other sessions are available either on their own or as a complement to fertility therapy or childbirth preparation. Please email or call me at (972) 679-2297 for more information.
